Who Should Carry Stop Watches?

by Charlie Reese

Who Should Carry Stop Watches?

Having stop watches on hand has become a Hollywood joke poking fun at people that constantly require precision in their lives. They require so much precision that they carry stop watches to time everything and anything. Probably one of the funnier uses of this joke is in the Three Amigos when the Mexican bandito announces that he has a stop watch on him to help time the drawing of a gun. But stop watches are extremely precision devices and are so precise that they have come to represent a desire for complete and absolute accuracy. You cannot argue with that time, it was done on a stop watch. So it stands to reason that only a quality stop watch will do when it comes time to get one, but that whole idea raises another important question. Just exactly who should carry stop watches? I think we can all agree that athletic coaches should carry them for the sake of timing their athletes but there are other instances where having good stop watches around may be a huge benefit.

If you have someone at work that spends a little too much time around the water cooler then you can go ahead and let them know exactly how much time they are spending there by keeping track for them. I am certain that they will not appreciate it, but if they are one of those people that talk incessantly then you could always just show them your stop watch and let them know that if they don’t stop boring you with last year’s vacation stories that the boss may have to find out exactly how much time they spend at the old water cooler. Is that very nice? No. But at least that is one less office bore you will have to deal with.

Getting The Kids Out Of Bed

A mom with a stop watch can be a very dangerous thing to kids that take a long time to get out of bed. Perhaps a little condition can be added to the morning ritual that states that every minute they are late getting out of bed is a dollar off their weekly allowance. Those minutes can add up and if there is ever a disagreement about the exact minutes all you would need to do is refer to the precision timepiece and that should end all discussion. That could make weekday mornings go by so fast.

There are a lot of uses for stop watches and all you need to find them is a little creativity and the strong desire to keep perfect time.

A Good Excuse To Buy Visage Watches

by Charlie Reese

A Good Excuse To Buy Visage Watches

There are a lot of things in this world that you can spend a lot of money on for status. However it is not always a given that when you spend a great deal of money for the sake of status that you will always get a quality product. In reality what is the difference between paying $300 for a designer pair of jeans and paying $30 for a pair of Levis? Apparently, in many cases, the real difference is $270. But when it comes to watches you can purchase a line of products that will not only cause conversation but are also of the highest quality available.

Visage watches are made by Visage, which is headquartered right in the middle of New York City. When you look at Visage watches you are looking at a line of watches that the in crowd loves to be seen with but also have the distinction of being very popular with people that want to buy a quality watch. Visage watches are recognizable not by any logo but rather by their unique and artistic design, but don’t let the seemingly high-end art design fool you. Visage watches are designed for durability and long lasting quality which anyone can appreciate. They may not cost nearly as much as a Rolex but Visage watches sure do act like the high-end of the watch world.

Visage watches are crafted using stainless steel for long lasting quality. They are also hand crafted and designed to have a distinct look, which can help you display part of your personality. The watchbands are made of pure leather and they are also crafted to give a unique look. In some cases you need a second look at Visage watches to tell if they are high-end pieces of designer jewelry or if they are watches. But once you start to use Visage watches and rely on them every day you begin to realize that not only can they become an extension of your personality, but also they are also very precise and reliable when it comes to the job of being a timepiece.

Not Just Watches

Visage watches also make lines of accessories such as bracelets and necklaces that are complimentary to their watch designs. Make sure you ask your retailer to see all of the products associated with a particular design so that you can add as much flair to your life as you could possibly want. Maybe you could add a ring to your watch ensemble or a necklace that is the same design type as your unique watch. Visage watches don’t just stop at timepieces. They want to give you the whole accessorized look.

If you are looking for precise and beautiful watches then you should look into Visage watches. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

If you are new to designer watches you probably have a bunch of simple questions you need answers to. Well that is exactly what we are going to do. Now this is not going to be a comprehensive look at everything relating to designer watches, but it should be a good enough start off point that you can feel comfortable beginning your search.

Questions And Answers to Basic Designer Watch Inquries

The first question most people have when buying designer watches is where to purchase them. While there is no simple answer to this question there are a few guidelines you can follow. The first is to not be afraid to buy on the Internet. There are many designer watches that you can only get directly from manufacturer in the U.S. In addition, many jewelers will mark up their products a lot so you can probably get the best price online. The only downside is that there are disreputable watch dealers out there so you have to be careful. The best thing to do is ask the dealer for a serial number. If they are unwilling to provide you a serial number, then move onto someone else. If they do provide you one check it with the manufacturer to assure that it is the genuine article.

The next question that comes up a lot is what exactly does water resistant mean? Well it means exactly what is says, the watch is resistant to water but probably will fail at any depth. For watches that are depth rated they will specifically say to what depth they are rated. In addition to that some watches are rated in bars. One bar equals approximately thirty three feet of depth. Be careful though as some watches will say they are rated to three bars but this just means they are water resistant. Again, to be absolutely sure of what your watch is rated contact the manufacturer.

Another often asked question, what is a unidirectional bezel? Simply put this is a marker that is put into place to mark time. In general this was used to mark the time for deep sea diving, but many of the higher end watches now have them on them for more stylistic purposes. Although their practical use is somewhat diminished today, they can be used to set reminders and mark when you want to do something.

Well there you have it, these have been some of the more common designer watches questions. I recommend going directly to the watch manufacturer if you have more specific questions. Chances are they will not be able to provide you the service level you need, if you are unable to get a hold of them or unable to find the right answers to you questions.

by Charlie Reese

Swatch Watches For All Seasons

Swiss watches are usually associated with elegant timepieces with a long history, the type of watches you can hand down to your children. Swatch watches are not that type of watch at all. With a Swatch watch you can enjoy all the benefits of superior Swiss watch making while enjoying fun designs that keep changing with what is in and relevant today.

The best thing about Swatch watches is that you can have a variety of the watches without breaking the bank. Although it may not be cool to wear more than one watch a time now, you could certainly do that with your new Swatches. You’ll be torn between all the great designs, as it will be hard to decide which ones to wear!

Plastic Fun

If you love things that have an element of kitsch in them then you’ll love Swatch watches. The watches were very popular in the 80’s and 90’s for precisely this element in the design. Today Swatch watches still have that element of fun and the variety of designs range from classy to elegance. You can even buy watches that are made in non-plastic materials. There are so many options in terms of style that you can easily match all your outfits to the many different Swatches available.

The plastic Swatch is still available but there are also watches for those with more subdued tastes. Both girls and guys will have plenty to choose from as the designs cater for both men and women. It doesn’t matter how old you are either, there are Swatch watches that would fit someone older who doesn’t appreciate cute designs or plastic watchstraps.

Collectible

Although these watches are not made with the intention of being handed down there are a number of people out there who love collecting Swatch watches. The unique designs that are so distinctive in the watch market make these watches an ideal collectible. There are people out there who have never worn the watches that they bought in the 90’s. You would be surprised at how much these watches can bring in when auctioned off online or sold on collectible sites.

These watches also make great gifts. Watches are always a go to gift when trying to give someone something that is both practical and visually appealing. Swatch watches are especially great because they have been designed to be fashion accessories as well as in sync with what’s hot on the fashion scene. You can be sure you’re buying the very latest trends when you go with a Swatch.

A man would normally give a diamond engagement ring to the woman he wants to marry and when she also accepts the proposal and this is the normal custom in Spain as well as several countries of the world. This could be very charming to look at but have you ever thought about gifting diamond watches for men and women which are not only functional but good looking too? Many of these in-demand pieces are made by eminent names of the industry and different jewelers focus on specific types of this jewelry.

Tacori the designer that has earned accolades for making diamond wedding jewelry which takes the best of both worlds - conventional patterns along with modern elegance. Hildago on the other hand is famous for creating pieces with a riot of colors and perhaps slightly outlandish looking and the engagement rings of 130-year old company Christian Bauer is available only through some select outlets and they make diamond jewelry only on special orders. As you might imagine, not all diamonds for sale wind up being mounted in these exquisite pieces but only the best certified examples, carefully graded for clarity and color, are selected.

Diamond watches are adored both by men and women as a type of jewelry. In fact, the first wristwatches were actually diamond bracelets that had a small timepiece mounted. One saw the first of its kind when Earl of Leicester gifted one to Queen Elizabeth which was a cute round clock adorned with impeccable diamonds and which kept on dangling from a wristband. Probably this was the first real diamond watch for ladies.

Wristwatches were treated as womanly by men who only sported pocket watches till First World War. The construction of the airplane paved the way for the creation of the first wrist watch for men. This is due to the fact that during early years of the airplane, both hands were used for control purposes in the absence of fuel gauges. A need was felt thus for a timepiece which would twin purposes of the pilot tracking his range and checking the fuel stock and not remove his hands from the controls so that he could have a look at his pocket watch.

Strangely diamond engagement rings and wrist watches for men both became famous nearly simultaneously. Today the three topmost makers of diamond watches are Cartier of France, Citizen from Japan and Movado from Switzerland. The last name is synonymous to the saying ‘runs like a Swiss watch’. Engaged in making watches for the past century, you can get a variety of 200 distinctively characteristic diamond watches from Movado.

by Jeff Glasser

Most any female could admit that jewelry is no stranger to her and it is desirable. Rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and ladies watches are just a few examples of what may be found in any given woman’s jewelry box. The topic of choice is that of ladies watches and most will find that an appealing timepiece truly compliments the outfit. In some instances the watch can match all of the other pieces of jewelry being worn on any given day.

The importance of ladies watches is sometimes forgotten with so So much emphasis is placed on rings or necklaces. To be able to look nice and also be aware of what time it is whenever curious is the idea behind a woman’s watch. There is no reason for a watch to be bulky or unattractive especially when it comes to that worn by a lady. Ladies watches are readily visible at most any formal event or function, in most instances.

Some ladies watches have gold or silver or diamonds or a combination of all three possibilities. Some ladies watches are big or small or decorative so as to allow modification of any look or outfit to be possible. Because there are so many watches to choose from, many women may find it difficult to find a watch that is to her liking. As a gift, it is important to make certain, when selecting from the many ladies watches out there, that it is appropriate for the person to receive it

Ladies Watches As Conversation Pieces

Perhaps one day a female finds herself waiting among strangers for a bus and no topic of interest is at hand to pass the time. In some cases the ladies watches that are decorative or extravagant or sometimes even simple may lead to a thought provoking discussion. Questions in regards to where the watch was purchased, how much it cost or why the person had chosen it, is often common in this instance.

Another possible scenario involving a ladies watch as a conversation piece would perhaps be on a date with another person. That deafening silence as a newly met couple waits for their meal to arrive at a restaurant could perhaps be converted to a casual comfortable conversation about the particular watch the female had chosen for the evening. When it comes to the possibilities of ladies watches and the situations or circumstances that surround them, there is obviously more than meets the eye.

The Value Of Antique Pocket Watches

by Charlie Reese

The Value Of Antique Pocket Watches

Last year we were buying my son?s high school ring and I decided to also pick up a pocket watch. I told him that I may not have much to leave behind for him but I at least wanted to leave him this pocket watch. I don?t know why I chose a pocket watch. All I know is that it seemed like the right thing to choose. I thought about it for a while and then it occurred to me that a well-made pocket watch is a perfect heirloom to leave behind. It is something that future generations will always need and use and something that they can easily store and cherish. The watch I have has many generations to go through before it can be considered antique but antique pocket watches make perfect heirlooms to leave for future generations. It is especially nice if the antique pocket watches you are leaving behind are precision built because while antique pocket watches are nice if you have antique pocket watches that can still tell perfect time then you really have something of high value. Sometimes the perceived value of antique pocket watches is higher than the actual value.

Sometimes you happen upon antique pocket watches in places you would never expect. There was a story some years ago of a person that was able to find priceless antique pocket watches at his local flea market. If you know what you are looking for then you can find antique pocket watches just about anywhere. A garage sale may the place to find antique pocket watches although there has to be a certain amount of guilt involved in paying fifty cents for something you know is worth much more than that. Buying antique pocket watches should not be an occasion to wrestle with one?s conscience. But there is a huge availability out there if you just know where to look and know what you are looking for.

Treasures For Future Generations

When you get something as valuable as an heirloom pocket watch you should always keep track of it and keep it in a safe place. Never give something so valuable to anyone too young to deal with it. I was given a few heirlooms when I was very young and today I lament losing them as a youth so that I am not able to enjoy them now. So be selective on whom you give these heirlooms to and remember that it is only an heirloom if it makes it to the next generation.

Due to new jewel-crafting techniques and technologies, customizing your Rolex watch is a very hot trend for those Rolex owners who want to mark their luxury timepieces as uniquely fashionable and to enhance its resale value. Customizing your Rolex watch has become so hot that there are artisan jewelers who specialize in crafting each Rolex component, as it requires exceptional skills in precious metals fabrication and production, exacting standards for quality of materials and craftsmanship, and an intimate knowledge of gem cutting techniques and innovative designs. Each client presents a challenge for jewelers and with each project, their expertise with Rolex customization grows as well as their mastery of their craft.

Customizing your Rolex Dial

The dial or face of a Rolex watch is the most visible of features and is generally the first thing that catches the eye even from across a room. While it must be said that Rolex dials are made with the same flawless workmanship and attention to detail that Rolex applies to the interior mechanisms and other components, customizing your Rolex dial imparts another level of luxury and individuality. Options for customizing the dial of a Rolex abound and are limited only by the finite space the interior of a Rolex affords and the intrinsic properties of the materials themselves.

18K yellow gold remains the most popular choice for customized Rolex dials for its natural luster and ability to enhance and flatter any gemstone, especially diamonds. 18K white gold dials imply understated elegance and are popular choices for showcasing the gems of color, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and the like. A stainless steel Rolex dial imparts that the wearer is a self-motivated, take-charge individual who prefers practicality over ostentation. Flawless mother-of-pearl dials are popular choices for ladies who prefer the natural warmth of the nacre that accentuates the rings on their fingers. But perhaps the most dramatic choice for customizing your Rolex dial is a polished black onyx dial which seems to absorb light and deepen the beauty of the bracelet and bezel.

Customizing your Rolex Bezel

The bezel is the ring surrounding the crystal of a Rolex that protects and holds it in place. A bezel can be customized in a variety of ways and is most often crafted from precious metal. The bezel is exposed to the most contact and potential damage so it is imperative that the metal of the bezel is durable and can withstand the occasional inadvertent contact with a door frame or other hard knocks. Bezels are frequently constructed of 18K white gold, yellow gold, or platinum, resistant to wear and able to hold precious gems fast in their mounts.

Customizing your Rolex watch with a ceramic bezel is a relatively new option with little or no capability for holding gems but when polished to a high shine with numbers etched into the surface that are filled with gold, it has an unique elegance all its own that some people prefer. When it comes to gemstone choices for Rolex bezels, diamonds are undoubtedly the most popular choice. Their ability to throw light and draw the eye is unparalleled and after all, that?s the reason for customizing your Rolex watch, isn?t it? Other gems, like rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, are also used in combination for bezel customization because their own natural beauty makes a statement about the wearer and their discerning fashion sense.

Customizing your Rolex Bracelet

Customizing the bracelet of your Rolex presents many of the same options as mentioned above, but the key determinant seems to be how the material feels against the owner?s skin. 18K yellow and white gold are again the most popular choices, with platinum a distant third. Because of the sheer amount of surface area on a bracelet and clasp, the bracelet is an excellent option for where Rolex customization. Different configurations and combinations of metals create unlimited customization options and each link of the bracelet can hold several gems with types and combinations only limited by the owner?s imagination and budget.

Customizing your Rolex watch with dials, bezels, and bracelets is a uniquely personal endeavor. Owners frequently take a great deal of time to weigh their options before making a final decision. They pore over trade magazines and surf the Internet for inspiration and ideas. It is not uncommon for owners to discover that they’ve had so much fun customizing their Rolex, they start looking for another Rolex to customize shortly after the jeweler has been commissioned to perform the personalization on the first piece!

The market for used and pre-owned Rolex watches has risen steadily over the last couple of decades as more people desire Rolexes for their design, craftsmanship, and enduring value. Given the current state of technology and its impact on our lives, it?s easy to forget that wristwatches barely existed a century ago. Pocket watches were the only real option, and the main obstacle to wristwatch production was that the moving parts inside a watch could not be made small enough to fit in a wristwatch and still meet the standards for accuracy and performance. Then in 1908, a German named Hans Wildorf founded Rolex with his brother-in-law and from that point forward, personal timekeeping would never be the same.

Not only did Herr Wildorf make Rolex watches small enough to fit comfortably on a wrist, he also invented the world?s first truly waterproof watch and a few years later, the world?s first self-winding watch, the Rolex Perpetual. These are some of the many highlights in the history of Rolex watches and the extraordinary people who built the company through their relentless pursuit of precision and exceptional craftsmanship.

These days, the Rolex name is one of the most recognized brands all over the world and people have no qualms about buying a used or pre-owned Rolex, as everyone knows they are built to last and withstand extraordinary conditions. Rolexes have descended to the deepest recesses of the Marianas Trench, circled the wrists of climbers who have reached the summit of Mount Everest, and even accompanied astronauts into space. Despite the demands of these radically different environments, Rolex watches maintained their ability to keep incredibly accurate time without interruption.

Perhaps the intrinsically human want to associate ourselves with excellence inspires people to purchase used Rolex watches or, to use the currently popular term, pre-owned Rolex watches. Or maybe it is the fashion statement that a Rolex watch makes in any milieu. It also may be the simple satisfaction of having a personal accessory that will continue to perform reliably year after year in all conditions. Whatever one’s motivation for buying a used Rolex may be, the market for pre-owned Rolexes continues to grow with no end in sight.

It’s hard to imagine that the arrival of quartz digital watches in the late 60s and early 70s almost made mechanical watches obsolete. As consumers flocked to inexpensive digital models flooding the marketplace, many Swiss watch manufacturers scrambled to revamp watch production, but Rolex steadfastly stuck to its values and time-tested production methods. That persistence paid off a few years later when one particular pre-owned Rolex model became prized by collectors in Europe and throughout America. Rolex produced only one model of the quartz watch in a limited production run and today, it’s one of the most sought-after pre-owned Rolex watches by collectors.

The demand for the Rolex quartz is dwarfed by collectors? enthusiasm and desire for another model. The first Paul Newman Cosmograph Daytona was introduced in the late 60s and featured a built-in stopwatch that was a practical tool for racing car time trials, as well as a variety of other uses, from horse racing to track and field events. Because of the boom in digital watches at the time, Rolex produced a relatively small number of Paul Newman Daytonas, but in the 80s, it became a must-have for serious collectors of used Rolex watches and as prices soared, they became harder to find.

These are only a couple examples of used Rolex watches indicative of the value that pre-owned Rolex watches retain over time. While the resale value is exceptionally enduring, most people more often purchase used Rolexes for uniquely personal reasons. No matter what the reason for purchase, a pre-owned Rolex allows one to touch the past, and despite the age of the instrument, each piece resonates with the uncompromising standards of workmanship and quality materials synonymous with the Rolex name. It is of no surprise that the market for used Rolex watches is hot and expected to remain so for the foreseeable future.

It’s no secret that Rolex watches set the standard for luxury timepieces, being the choice for discriminating individuals for over a century. Indeed, the Rolex name has become synonymous with superb design, craftsmanship, reliability, and performance and people all over the world choose Rolex chronographs not only because they measure time with exquisite accuracy, but they also measure the wearer’s sense of style and professional accomplishments. A Rolex chronograph gracing a wrist anywhere throughout the world implies that the wearer will settle only for the very best and has the financial means to get it.

Customizing your Rolex Watch

These days, Rolex owners have many more options for customizing their Rolex watches than were available just a generation ago. Rolex customization options not only express a sense of individuality and style, but also add significant value to an owner’s investment. Artisan jewelers are responding to this demand by offering customized Rolex dials, bezels, bracelets, lugs, clasps, and other watch components inspired by the Rolex owners imagination and the jewelers skills.

Customized Rolexes sport precious and semi-precious gemstones on the clasps, mother of pearl dials inlaid with different cuts of diamonds, bracelets crafted from precious metals, and bezels accented with a variety of gems. This article focuses on customizing your Rolex watch with a variety of different bezels to add a bit of panache and make it uniquely yours.

Rolex Bezels

A bezel is the ring that surrounds the watch face and holds the crystal in place. In many cases, the bezel rotates and enhances the functionality of the watch. But for many Rolex owners, the bezel presents another opportunity for customization. Initially, customized Rolex bezels were commissioned by fashion-conscious ladies who wanted to make their Rolex truly unique and challenge their favorite jewelers with increasingly elaborate designs. Today, many men are choosing to enhance the value of their Rolexes with customized bezels and skilled jewelers the world over are responding to this trend and making Rolex bezels that catch the eye from across a room.

Let’s start with the metal options for bezels. 18K gold is the most popular choice year after year as its luster, feel, and ability to enhance the look of precious gems have endured for millennia. 18K white gold bezels are the second most popular as they impart the same warm feel on the skin as yellow gold but have a beauty that is more understated while still providing the desired properties of elegance and malleability. In recent years, artisan jewelers have responded to demand by crafting custom Rolex bezels in other metals such as platinum, titanium, and even stainless steel.

Rolex bezels customized with gemstones elevate the trend to another level. Diamonds are, and always have been, the gemstones of choice for Rolex bezels, with emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and other precious gems rounding out the field. Rolex owners are also increasingly commissioning custom bezels with other gems, namely amethyst, topaz, moonstone, garnet, citrine, peridot, tourmaline, polished coral, ivory, and even fossils!

The cut of the Rolex bezel also displays a wearer’s personal taste. The gemstones are fashioned in the traditional marquise, crown, pavilion, Old Single, Briolette, emerald, pear, and baguette cuts. However, demand drives innovation and new gem-cutting equipment and techniques allow even more elaborate designs, such as Navettes, French cuts, trapezes, triangle cuts, octahedrons, and gems cuts with concave facets.

Today, there are more options for customizing your Rolex watch than ever before and jewelers must take extra care that the customized bezels and other watch components are crafted with the same workmanship, quality of materials, and precision that is synonymous with the Rolex name. This craftsmanship and attention to detail presents a unique challenge for artisan jewelers all over the world, inspiring them to rise above and beyond their current mastery of the trade to please the creative quest of their discerning clientele. If there is one prevailing theme to customizing your Rolex, it wouldn’nt be ?form follows function?; it would be ?form fuels the imagination!?
